TL;DR – Due to medical issues, I’m cancelling all of my non-local speaking engagement for the rest of the year. This was not an easy decision to make, but the risk is too high for me to travel overnight right now. I’m super bummed on missing out on all of these great conferences, but I need to focus on getting better first.
This past weekend, I was stoked to be speaking at MKE DOT NET, a single day conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. However, as my wife and I started our journey, I had a medical emergency and was not able to make the trip. Not only did I miss the conference, but I also missed out on seeing my friend compete in her first Ironman in Madison on Sunday.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time that this has happened. Since early July, I’ve had episodes where I have stomach pain, sweating, and in one case, passing out. Usually, the feelings wear off after a couple of hours, but in the last two weeks, I’ve had several of these episodes and have been to the ER twice.
Given the increased frequency of these episodes, there’s way too much risk for me to travel overnight, so I’ve canceled all of my speaking engagements for the rest of the year as the doctors work to figure out what’s going on with me.
I’m upset that I won’t be able to speak for the rest of year as 2017 was becoming my breakout year as a speaker, however, I will return in 2018 and in the meantime continue to share what I know with others through more blogging and local user groups.
